This community based project spearheaded by the UK’s largest aquarium, has been running since 2015 and provides local water users with opportunities to be involved in helping with scientific surveys to aid seagrass conservation. Find out about the fascinating underwater grass meadows we have around our coast and how they provide a vital nursery habitat for commercial fish species, improve our coastal water quality, reduce coastal erosion and provide a home for a huge variety of weird and wonderful marine critters.

Come see us to collect your free scientific monitoring equipment pack, check out our underwater towed camera and bring the little ones to take part in making a 3D seagrass habitat! An informative talk showing beautiful footage and photos from the local seagrass meadows will be given by Torbay project officer Rachel Cole at Brixham Yacht Club.

Discover your local underwater seagrass meadows and be amazed!

Devon Seals in the Wild

Devon Seals in the Wild is a public interest group of enthusiastic individuals, connected via Facebook, who are concerned with the welfare of local Devon seals. Some of our group are involved in seal rescue, relay, rehabilitation and release. We also help with post release surveying, wild studies and stranding data collection via other organisations. We are encouraging the public to be involved by asking questions and sending us videos and pictures to identify our locals, and can be an accessible point of contact for signposting too if needed. We wish to promote education, inspiration and enthusiasm in the community for marine conservation, our seals and their future. It would be great for more people to join our group and join in!

The team recover the nets back to the surface, and then arrange for them to be recycled into fabrics and other materials.

Today we are a well-respected advocate for shark management and protection and part of a global collaborative movement in shark conservation; working to safeguard shark, skate and ray populations through positive change.
